Broken or Cracked Tooth — Same-Day Repair

From small chips to major fractures, we restore broken teeth in a single visit whenever possible.

Types of tooth fracture

  • Craze lines — surface cracks in enamel, often cosmetic only
  • Chipped tooth — small piece of enamel missing
  • Cracked tooth — visible crack running from the chewing surface
  • Fractured cusp — piece of the chewing surface broken off
  • Split tooth — vertical fracture extending below the gum line
  • Vertical root fracture — deep crack starting from the root

Before you arrive

  1. Save any pieces you can find — rinse and store in milk.
  2. Rinse your mouth with warm water.
  3. If bleeding, apply gentle pressure with gauze for 10 minutes.
  4. Cold compress on the outside of the cheek.
  5. Cover any sharp edge with dental wax to protect your tongue.
  6. Book an appointment online.

How we treat broken teeth

  • Composite bonding for small chips — tooth-coloured material applied in one visit
  • Onlay or crown for larger fractures involving the chewing surface
  • Root canal if the crack reaches the nerve
  • Extraction + implant planning for split or vertical-root fractures that cannot be saved

Why you shouldn’t wait

Even painless cracks expand under chewing forces. Exposed inner tooth (dentin or pulp) can become infected within days. Sharp edges cut the tongue or cheek. Same-day treatment usually saves the tooth and is far cheaper than waiting for it to need extraction.

What it costs

  • Composite bonding: $150–$400 per tooth
  • Crown: $900–$1,800 depending on material
  • Root canal: $700–$1,400
  • Extraction (simple): $150–$350

Insurance typically covers a portion of restorative care. We provide a written quote before any treatment.

Broken tooth FAQs

Is a broken tooth always an emergency?

Most broken teeth need same-day attention to prevent infection and stop the crack from spreading.

How are broken teeth repaired?

Bonding for small chips, onlays or crowns for larger fractures, root canals for nerve exposure, extraction with implant for unrestorable teeth.

What if it doesn’t hurt?

Painless cracks still need prompt repair. Cracks expand under chewing and exposed dentin can become infected within days.

Can you fix a broken front tooth same day?

Yes — most front chips and fractures can be restored in one visit with composite bonding.
